How To Wear A Maxi Dress – Tomboy Style

Maxi dresses are a girl’s best friend. Honestly, I think boy’s wish they could be their best friend too (though most are not daring enough). Maxi dresses give you the breezy feeling of a dress, without the worry of “Is my butt hanging out?” or “Do I really need to shave my legs – I’ve got a really impressive amount of length going on down here…” They also are the number one choice to looking super put-together when you go to a buffet and  you don’t have to be uncomfortable after having three servings of mashed potatoes.

However, the best thing is that they are relatively the easiest outfit because they are your top and your bottom. The only final question is – how do I make the maxi dress work for me and my style? No worries, I got you covered! (See what I did there…I got you covered…because like…a maxi dress really covers you up…heh…ok…)

Here is final installment of the How To Wear A Maxi Dress series, which is what I like to call the “tomboy style”. Now this style is more for a very edgy kind of girl, but she also is laid-back. She basically thinks of her maxi dress as a big ‘ol t-shirt.

The key to pulling this look off is ‘low maintenance’. That being said, a tomboy doesn’t really go for prints. As for the maxi, stick to a basic jersey style (remember what I said about as comfy as a t-shirt).

This girl is trying to hop on a skateboard, probably has black biker shorts under her dress, and loves her some menswear – which is why you’re defiantly gonna want to style this look with a leather jacket. If it’s not the weather to wear such a heavy coat, try opting for a over-sized flannel or plaid. A beat up denim jacket also does the trick.

As for shoes, stay low to the ground. Sneakers like a pair of classic Vans, Converse, or Jack Purcell’s are a easy choice. Another great option for colder weather is moto-boots or Doc Marten’s.

Accessories are simple – bare minimum. A simple necklace and bracelets works fine, but the look is still complete without them. (Do extra hair ties count as a bracelet?) Tomboys just don’t like to fuss over their outfit. Sunglasses are practical, so they wear them. A bag should be easy to move around with – so it’s either small and out of the way, or large enough to carry all the random stuff (like music, a book, and a change of clothes for tomorrow), or she doesn’t even carry a bag at all…isn’t that what pockets are for?

So put your I-washed-my-hair-three-days-ago-I-think…hair in that messy bun, make sure your laces are tied, and make sure to congratulate yourself on how great you look!
