I feel like I’m a total broken record, but’s I can’t say it enough…Mixing prints is not only easy, but it’s also super fun! All you have to do is keep in mind a color scheme. The easiest color scheme would be monochromes – black, gray, and white. While certain colors will rise and fall in popularity, black and white is easy to find in a store because they are so classic.
So here’s my advice…Find a black/white printed bottom and top you want to buy. Step two, put those suckers on. Then, look in the mirror. Next, give yourself a thumbs up, because you look awesome. It’s honestly as simple as that. My only rule to what type of prints would be to stay away from a very similar print for both bottom and top. For example, wearing a floral skirt and a slightly different floral top might make you look like a bizarre garden. However, as you can see on these girls, just varying either they color combo or the size of print can make a wild difference.

I, personally, usually tone down my look by putting on a solid colored coat like a blazer. You want the silhouette to be simple so that the print can be the focal point. Meaning, don’t buy that gorilla looking red faux fur jacket you’ve been eyeing for this outfit. (I mean, I might for an evening look…but it’s not really a practical everyday outfit…) Lastly, I would suggest adding either a necklace, belt, shoes, or purse with a ‘pop’ of color. (Or if you’re like me you will choose two ‘pops’ of color). Below is a picture of my take on monochromatics so you can see what I’m talking bout.
So all you need to remember these three tips… First, mixing prints works well when you follow a color scheme – therefore anything in black and white will work. Secondly, you can add extra interest with ‘pops’ of color in your accessories or one of your articles of clothing. Thirdly, have fun and try new things! You’ll be surprised how easy and chic mixing prints really is. Follow these rules and your monochromatic outfit will go from stale to exciting!
